Understanding UK Visa Sponsorship
The UK Skilled Worker visa allows employers with a valid sponsor licence to hire overseas workers for eligible roles. The system has undergone significant changes in 2024–2025, making it harder and more expensive to sponsor workers.
The salary thresholdis the minimum annual salary your employer must pay. It was raised from £26,200 to £38,700 in April 2024 — a 48% increase. For some occupations, the “going rate” is even higher than the general threshold.
From July 2025, only graduate-level roles (RQF 6+) qualify for the Skilled Worker visa. Many previously eligible occupations — including care workers, lab technicians, and various skilled trades — are no longer eligible through this route.
